Food & Culture Vacation – Experience and Taste in Valldal on Vacation
Do you dream of a special cultural and food vacation for the summer?
Everyone who loves to travel and get to know new places knows that food is an important part of the experience. The food that is produced and served in an area you visit tells something about both the history of the people who live here, as well as the surrounding area.
In the narrow valleys between the high mountains here in northwest Norway, there are opportunities for small production units that grow or produce vegetables, berries, fruit, or meat that have enjoyed the clean air, the long bright days, and the nutritious soil. Valldal is a long valley of 25 kilometers that starts down by the beautiful Norddalsfjorden and ends up at the famous tourist destination Trollstigen.
Meretes Garden
Meretes Garden is a small oasis 3.5 km up from the center of Valldal. Here we offer glamping and spa by the Valldøla river that runs through the entire valley. Here, the founder, Merete, has established a retreat center with 6 glamping tents, a yoga studio, and a bathhouse with a large, nice sauna, toilet and bathroom, guest kitchen, and outdoor area for relaxation – and barbecue for those who wish.
Valldal is one of the most beautiful areas in Sunnmøre
Valldal is not only known for its lush landscapes and majestic mountains and fjords, but also for its rich food culture. Everything from local ingredients and traditional dishes, which gives both visitors and residents a unique experience of Norwegian gastronomy.
Merets Garden: Here we offer homemade sourdough pizza, both a tasty variant with Norwegian pepperoni and cheese, vegetarian pizza with mozzarella and tomato, and an exciting dessert variant with Valldal strawberries and chocolate. Mmm, yes, here you can order both lunch and dessert. The sourdough base is made from stone-ground quality flour and adds a little extra to the pizza. Sourdough pizza is more filling than other pizza, better balances blood sugar, and is full of flavor and aroma. We only accept orders for groups of 4-10 people. And remember to order well in advance, as sourdough baking requires a couple of days to prepare.
Sourdough baking
Sourdough baking is an ancient baking tradition with roots dating back to the Viking Age and was the natural way to bake bread and other baked goods until the 1850s. Sourdough balances blood sugar and is good for the stomach, giving the product flavor and character. Here at our place, we only use Norwegian stone-ground flour from one of Norway’s oldest mills in our sourdough baking, rich in vitamins and nutrients.
An irresistible breakfast for our glamping guests
Meretes Garden is also known for offering an irresistible breakfast to glamping guests. The muesli is made with carefully selected ingredients and is perfect for those who want a healthy and nutritious start to the day. Together with yoghurt and berries, you are ensured to feel full and satisfied. This breakfast showcases the best of what Valldal has to offer.
